We’ve put together a selection of course outlines demonstrating the types of training we run for our clients. They’re examples of courses we have run, all of which have been tailored to meet the needs of different organisations. - Learning from Living with Dementia: Dementia Awareness (1 day)
Aimed at: staff working at any level in any type of social care, housing or health service.
Overview: This course has been co-produced by people living with dementia, who also co-deliver the training, through embedded video clips throughout the training day. It enables participants to gain a deep understanding of the experience and needs of people with dementia and an awareness of how they can make a difference to people they support.
Length: 1 day - Person-centred dementia care (3 days)
Aimed at: care staff, nurses and healthcare assistants in many organisations including care homes, hospitals, domiciliary care services and day centres.
Overview: This course gives staff a comprehensive understanding of dementia and person-centred care. Participants will also learn the practical skills necessary to recognise and address a wide range of needs, respond effectively in challenging situations and enhance well-being through a range of approaches.
Length: 3 days - Person-centred dementia care (2 days)
Aimed at: care staff, nurses and healthcare assistants in many organisations including care homes, hospitals, domiciliary care services and day centres.
Overview: This course gives staff a good grounding in dementia and person-centred care and addresses a range of important, practical issues, relating to day-to-day interactions with people with dementia.
Length: 2 days
- Introduction to person-centred dementia care
Aimed at: care staff, nurses and healthcare assistants in many organisations including care homes, hospitals, domiciliary care services and day centres.
Overview: This course provides a good introduction to dementia, person-centred care and communication.
Length: 1 day - Introduction to dementia for non-care staff
Aimed at: any public-facing staff who may have contact with people with dementia and their carers.
Overview: This course enables participants to understand what dementia is, to challenge myths and to develop the skills to communicate effectively with people with dementia and/or carers.
Length: 1/2 day - Dementia Awareness (1 hour)
Aimed at: any staff who may have occasional contact with people with dementia.
Overview: This session helps participants understand what dementia is and how their own communication approach will impact on anyone with dementia they encounter .
Length: 1 hour
- Dementia Champions Development Programme
Aimed at: Nominated staff from health and social care services.
Overview: This course provides an enhanced level of understanding of the needs of people with dementia and enables participants to promote and lead best practice in dementia care within their own settings.
Length: 5 days - Effective communication with people with dementia
Aimed at: Care staff who already have a basic understanding of dementia and person-centred dementia care.
Overview: Through attending this course, participants develop their skills in engaging verbally and non-verbally with people with dementia in any situation, overcoming barriers, responding to different realities, and supporting meaningful interactions.
Length: 1 day - Activities and occupation for people with dementia
Aimed at: Care home and day centre staff that already have an understanding of dementia and person-centred care.
Overview: This course equips participants with plenty of practical ideas and skills for enabling people with dementia to be engaged, stimulated and meaningfully occupied.
Length: 1 day
- Understanding and responding to the behaviour of people with dementia
Aimed at: care staff who already have a basic understanding of dementia and person-centred dementia care.
Overview: This course provides participants with an understanding of the reasons and triggers that may lead people with dementia to behave in a challenging way, and enables them to respond effectively.
Length: 1 day - Mental health and dementia
Aimed at: Health and social care staff working with people with dementia.
Overview: This course enables participants to understand a range of mental health conditions that people may experience in addition to dementia, and provides practical approaches to responding to common symptoms and manifestations of distress.
Length: 2 days - Counselling skills in dementia care
Aimed at: Care staff who already have an understanding of person-centred dementia care.
Overview: This course enables participants to gain an in-depth understanding of the emotional needs of people with dementia, and to use counselling skills to communicate effectively with people with dementia who are expressing distress and/or unresolved issues.

- Learning from Living with Dementia Train the Trainer
Aimed at: Anyone intending to deliver training on dementia in any social care or health service
Overview: This course enables participants to gain the skills, confidence and resources for delivering the course Learning from Living with Dementia.
Length: 2 days - Hospital Dementia Care Train the Trainer
Aimed at: Healthcare professionals working in acute and community health services
Overview: This course enables participants to gain the skills, confidence and resources for delivering training on dementia within

Length: 2 days - Leadership in Dementia Care
Aimed at: managers and other senior staff working within health and social care services
Overview: This course focuses on the leaders’ role in making person-centred dementia care a reality within their setting. (See also

- Person-centred working and care planning
Aimed at: social workers and OTs.
Overview: This course enables those responsible for assessing and planning care to gain knowledge, confidence and skills relating to their role working with people with dementia.
Length: 2 days - Dementia for GPs and Practice Nurses
Aimed at: Primary care clinicians.
Overview: This course enables participants to gain a holistic understanding of dementia in order to provide effective support those who have, or may have, the condition and their carers.
Length: 0.5 days - Learning disability and dementia
Aimed at: staff working with people with a learning disability.
Overview: This course enables participants to provide effective support to people with a learning disability who develop, or may be developing, dementia.
Length: 2 days
